Historically, the Series 7 range has to be the most famous brush range of all due to the royal order from Queen Victoria in 1866 to Winsor and Newton that they produce brushes of only the highest quality in her favourite size: No 7.
She was, all her life, a regular painter in watercolours and received lessons from some of the greatest painters of her era so she knew her materials.
The original brushes for the Queen were to be made from only the finest Kolinsky Sable hair, the handles from ivory and the ferrules were to be in sterling silver.
Subsequently, these brushes were made available to the public albeit with ebony handles and less lavish ferrules.
To this day, Winsor and Newton take great pride in maintaining the heritage of quality that is Series 7.
